Search Tips

Wildcards Symbol (*)

The wildcard symbol (*) can be used in place of letters or characters in query words to search for different permutations of a word.

*	Can be in any position in the term and matches any number of characters.
Examples:	hemo*	matches hemolytic, hemophilia and hemophilia
	*NA	matches DNA and RNA
	*tet**	matches text and test
	BCL*	matches bcl-1/JH and bcl-2/JH
	virus*	matches virus or viruses
	*glucan*	matches beta-1,3-d-Glucan

Boolean Parameters

Search terms can be a single word or several words. The search engine automatically inserts and between words if nothing else is specified, so the Boolean term and can be omitted in search terms. For example, searching for tissue assay is the same as searching for tissue AND assay.

Quotes can be used to search for phrases. For example:

"tissue assay "

Words must be present in the specified order with no intervening words

The following boolean connectors can be used: AND, OR, NOT Examples:

tissue AND assay	Both words must be present
tissue OR assay	Either word can be present
assay NOT tissue	Only assay can be present, tissue cannot appear on the page

Specimen Required:	Patient Prep: If the patient is on doxorubicin therapy, allow at least 7 days following administration of a dose of doxorubicin before blood draw. Collect: CellSave® Preservative tube (ARUP Supply # 44867). Available online through eSupply using ARUP Connect™ or contact ARUP Client Services at (800) 522-2787. Due to stability, do not collect Fri-Sun. Specimen Preparation: Transport 20 mL whole blood. (Min: 10 mL) The minimum collection amount will not allow for repeat testing. Storage/Transport Temperature: Room temperature. Do not refrigerate or freeze. Remarks: Specify type of metastatic cancer (breast, colorectal, or prostate). Unacceptable Conditions: Frozen or refrigerated specimens. Specimens not collected in the CellSave® tube or collected in expired CellSave® tubes. Short draws. Stability (collection to initiation of testing): Ambient: 4 days; Refrigerated: Unacceptable; Frozen: Unacceptable

Note:	The CellSearch™ Circulating Tumor Cell kit is intended for the quantification of circulating tumor cells (CTC) of epithelial origin in whole blood. This assay can be used to predict progression free and overall survival in patients treated for metastatic cancer. The results of a CellSearch™ test should be interpreted with caution if specimens are drawn within 7 days of administration of doxorubicin therapy.
