Specimen Required:  
Collect: One 10 mL of plasma lavender (EDTA) or pink (K2EDTA). Also acceptable: two 5 mL PPT (pearl).

Transport: 3 mL plasma, frozen. (Min: 3 mL) Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.

Remarks: CRITICAL FROZEN. Separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered. For PPT specimens: Collect 2 tubes and separate plasma from cells within 2 hours from collection, pour into an ARUP Standard Transport Tube and freeze immediately. For EDTA: Separate plasma from cells within 2 hours from collection, immediately pour into an ARUP Standard Transport Tube and freeze. Do not thaw specimen after freezing. Indicate viral load and viral load collection date on the test request form. If viral load is less than 1,000 copies, testing MAY NOT be performed.

Unacceptable Conditions: Samples which have been thawed.

Stability: Ambient: Unacceptable; Refrigerated: Unacceptable
Frozen stability: (-20)°C: 2 weeks; (-70)°C:  Indefinitely.
