Specimen Required:  
Collect: Two 7 mL gray (sodium fluoride/potassium oxalate).  Also acceptable: plain red, green (sodium heparin), lavender (EDTA), or pink (K2EDTA).

Transport: 4 mL serum or plasma at 2-8°C.  (Min: 2.5 mL)  Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.

Pediatric Collection/Transport: 1.5 mL serum or plasma at 2-8°C.

Remarks: Remove serum from cells ASAP. Avoid use of serum separator tubes and gels.

Unacceptable Conditions: Specimens exposed to repeated freeze/thaw cycles. Serum separator tubes and plasma or whole blood from lt. blue tubes (sodium citrate).

Stability: After separation from cells: Ambient: 1 week; Refrigerated: 2 weeks; Frozen: 3 years

Interpretive Data:
Drugs Covered: codeine, dihydrocodeine, morphine, 6-acetylmorphine, hydrocodone, hydromorphone, oxycodone and oxymorphone. 
Positive cutoff:
2 ng/mL
