Specimen Required: Collect:  One 5 mL plain red or serum separator tube.

Storage/Transport Temperature:  2 mL serum at 20-25°C. (Min: 0.5 mL) Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.

Remarks:  At least 0.5 mL is required; however, if less is collected, send it, and as much testing as possible will be performed.

Unacceptable Conditions:  Hemolyzed or lipemic specimens.

Stability (collection to initiation of testing):  Ambient: 4 days; Refrigerated: 3 months; Frozen: Indefinitely

Note: The methodology is indirect immunofluorescence (IFA) of patient serum on substrates from rodents including mouse heart, liver, bladder and rat bladder to detect characteristic staining: intercalated discs in heart; portal tracts in liver; and simple columnar epithelium cell surface and basement membrane zone in bladders.

Characteristic staining of two or more substrate tissues is required for diagnosis.  Staining must include bladder epithelial cell surface staining.
