Search Tips

Wildcards Symbol (*)

The wildcard symbol (*) can be used in place of letters or characters in query words to search for different permutations of a word.

*	Can be in any position in the term and matches any number of characters.
Examples:	hemo*	matches hemolytic, hemophilia and hemophilia
	*NA	matches DNA and RNA
	*tet**	matches text and test
	BCL*	matches bcl-1/JH and bcl-2/JH
	virus*	matches virus or viruses
	*glucan*	matches beta-1,3-d-Glucan

Boolean Parameters

Search terms can be a single word or several words. The search engine automatically inserts and between words if nothing else is specified, so the Boolean term and can be omitted in search terms. For example, searching for tissue assay is the same as searching for tissue AND assay.

Quotes can be used to search for phrases. For example:

"tissue assay "

Words must be present in the specified order with no intervening words

The following boolean connectors can be used: AND, OR, NOT Examples:

tissue AND assay	Both words must be present
tissue OR assay	Either word can be present
assay NOT tissue	Only assay can be present, tissue cannot appear on the page

Specimen Required:	Collect: Royal blue (EDTA). Specimen Preparation: Centrifuge whole blood and separate RBCs immediately. Transfer 2 mL RBCs to an ARUP Trace Element-Free Transport Tube (ARUP supply #43116). Available online through eSupply using ARUP Connect™ or contact ARUP Client Services at (800) 522-2787. (Min: 0.6 mL) Storage/Transport Temperature: Room temperature. Also acceptable: Refrigerated. Unacceptable Conditions: Whole blood specimens with RBCs not separated after centrifugation. Frozen specimens. Clotted or grossly hemolyzed specimens. Stability (collection to initiation of testing): After separation from plasma: Ambient: 1 week; Refrigerated: 2 weeks; Frozen: Unacceptable

Reference Interval: 1.5-3.1 mmol/L
Interpretive Data:	RBC magnesium results reflect the intracellular stores and general homeostasis of magnesium. Results may be falsely low if RBCs in the submitted specimen are lysed or not promptly separated from plasma.
