#ExistCollect>
Collect: 24-hour urine. Refrigerate specimen during collection.
*ExistCollect> #ExistTransport> Transport: Four 4 mL aliquots from a 24-hour urine, frozen. (Min: 12 mL, 3 mL aliquots) Submit specimens in ARUP Standard Transport Tubes. 1st aliquot: No adjustment to pH. Record total 24-hour volume, collection time interval, and "No Adjustment to pH" on transport tube and test request form. 2nd aliquot: No adjustment to pH. Record total 24-hour volume, collection time interval, and "No Adjustment to pH" on transport tube and test request form. 3rd aliquot: Adjust remaining 24-hour collection to a pH of 1.5-2.0 by adding 6M HCI (approximately 10mL HCI/24-hour specimen based on normal adult output of 1000-2000 mL/24 hours). Mix well. Record total 24-hour volume, collection time interval, and pH on transport tube and test request form. 4th aliquot: After 3rd aliquot has been removed, adjust remaining 24-hour collection to a pH greater than 8 by adding 6M NaOH (approximately 20 mL 6M NaOH/24-hour specimen based on normal adult output of 1000-2000 mL/24 hours). Mix well and allow entire 24-hour collection to stand for 15 minutes. Record total 24-hour volume, collection time interval, and pH on transport tube and test request form. *ExistTransport> #ExistPedCollectTransport> Pediatric Collection/Transport: Four 3 mL aliquots from a 24-hour urine, frozen. Submit same as above. *ExistPedCollectTransport> #ExistRemarks> Remarks: Patient must collect urine for a full 24-hour period. Record total volume and collection time on test request form. *ExistRemarks> #ExistConditions> Unacceptable Conditions: Time collection other than 24 hours. Random collection *ExistConditions> #ExistStability> Stability: Ambient: Unacceptable; Refrigerated: 1 day; Frozen: 2 weeks *ExistStability> |
