0081057: Testosterone, Bioavailable & Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (Includes Total Testosterone), Females or Children

Test Mnemonic: BIO T MASS
Methodology: High Performance Liquid Chromatography/Tandem Mass Spectrometry
The concentrations of free and bioavailable testosterone are derived from mathematical expressions based on constants for the binding of testosterone to albumin and/or sex hormone binding globulin.

Performed: Sun-Sat

Reported: 1-4 days

Specimen Required:
Collect: One 4 mL SST or green (lithium heparin).  Specimen should be collected between 6-10 a.m.

Transport: 2 mL serum or plasma at 2-8°C. (Min: 0.6 mL)  Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.

Pediatric Collection/Transport: 0.6 mL serum at 2-8°C.

Remarks: Separate serum from cells ASAP.  This test is suggested for women and children due to an improved sensitivity of testosterone by LC-MS/MS.

Unacceptable Conditions: EDTA Plasma.

Stability: After separation from cells: Ambient: 24 hours; Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: 2 months
