Methodology: Tandem Mass Spectrometry
The concentration of free testosterone is derived from a mathematical expression based on the constant for the binding of testosterone to sex hormone binding globulin.

| Specimen Required: |

Collect: One 4 mL SST or green (lithium heparin). Specimen should be collected between 6-10 a.m.
Transport: 1 mL serum or plasma at 2-8°C. (Min: 0.6 mL) Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.
Pediatric Collection/Transport: 0.6 mL serum at 2-8°C.
Remarks: Separate serum from cells ASAP. This test is suggested for women and children due to an improved sensitivity of testosterone by LC-MS/MS.
Unacceptable Conditions: EDTA plasma.
Stability: After separation from cells: Ambient: 24 hours; Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: 2 months
