Wildcards Symbol (*)

The wildcard symbol (*) can be used in place of letters or characters in query words to search for different permutations of a word.

*	Can be in any position in the term and matches any number of characters.
Examples:	hemo*	matches hemolytic, hemophilia and hemophilia
	*NA	matches DNA and RNA
	*tet**	matches text and test
	BCL*	matches bcl-1/JH and bcl-2/JH
	virus*	matches virus or viruses
	*glucan*	matches beta-1,3-d-Glucan

Boolean Parameters

Search terms can be a single word or several words. The search engine automatically inserts and between words if nothing else is specified, so the Boolean term and can be omitted in search terms. For example, searching for tissue assay is the same as searching for tissue AND assay.

Quotes can be used to search for phrases. For example:

"tissue assay "

Words must be present in the specified order with no intervening words

The following boolean connectors can be used: AND, OR, NOT Examples:

tissue AND assay	Both words must be present
tissue OR assay	Either word can be present
assay NOT tissue	Only assay can be present, tissue cannot appear on the page

Methodology:	Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay

Specimen Required:	Collect: One 4 mL serum separator tube or plain red. Transport: 2 mL serum, frozen. (Min: 0.3 mL) Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. Remarks: Allow serum to clot completely at room temperature. Separate serum from cells ASAP. Unacceptable Conditions: Specimens exposed to repeated freeze/thaw cycles. Stability: After separation from cells: Ambient: 2 days; Refrigerated: 4 months; Frozen: 4 months

Reference Interval: 2.2 ng/mL or less
Interpretive Data:	SCC antigen levels alone should not be interpreted as evidence to the presence or absence of malignant disease. In patients with known or expected cancer, other tests and procedures must be considered for diagnosis and patient management. Results obtained with different assay methods or kits cannot be used interchangeably. Please refer to Statement A in the Compliance Statements section in the front of the Laboratory Test Directory.
