Search Tips

Wildcards Symbol (*)

The wildcard symbol (*) can be used in place of letters or characters in query words to search for different permutations of a word.

*	Can be in any position in the term and matches any number of characters.
Examples:	hemo*	matches hemolytic, hemophilia and hemophilia
	*NA	matches DNA and RNA
	*tet**	matches text and test
	BCL*	matches bcl-1/JH and bcl-2/JH
	virus*	matches virus or viruses
	*glucan*	matches beta-1,3-d-Glucan

Boolean Parameters

Search terms can be a single word or several words. The search engine automatically inserts and between words if nothing else is specified, so the Boolean term and can be omitted in search terms. For example, searching for tissue assay is the same as searching for tissue AND assay.

Quotes can be used to search for phrases. For example:

"tissue assay "

Words must be present in the specified order with no intervening words

The following boolean connectors can be used: AND, OR, NOT Examples:

tissue AND assay	Both words must be present
tissue OR assay	Either word can be present
assay NOT tissue	Only assay can be present, tissue cannot appear on the page

Methodology:	Electrochemiluminescent Immunoassay
Performed:	Sun-Sat
Reported:	Within 24 hours
Specimen Required:	Collect: One 4 mL serum separator tube or plasma separator tube. Also acceptable: green (sodium or lithium heparin), lavender (EDTA), or pink (K₂EDTA). Transport: 1 mL serum or plasma, frozen. (Min: 0.5 mL) Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. Remarks: Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature. Separate serum or plasma from cells ASAP. Unacceptable Conditions: Specimens collected in sodium citrate. Stability: After separation from cells: Ambient: 8 hours; Refrigerated: 5 days; Frozen: 3 months

Reference Interval: 0-37 U/mL
Interpretive Data:	The Roche Modular E170 CA 19-9 electrochemiluminescent immunoassay is used. Results obtained with different assay methods or kits cannot be used interchangeably. CA 19-9 is useful in monitoring pancreatic, hepatobiliary, gastric, hepatocellular, and colorectal cancer. The CA 19-9 assay value, regardless of level, should not be interpreted as absolute evidence of the presence or absence of malignant disease.
