| Specimen Required: |
Patient Prep: Preferred fasting.
Collect: One 10 mL green (sodium or lithium heparin). Centrifuge immediately. Follow transport instructions carefully.
Storage/Transport Temperature: 4 mL plasma, frozen. Add 2 mL heparinized plasma to each of the two collection tubes containing 40 mg oxalic acid (available through ARUP Client Services - ARUP Supply #16569). Mix and freeze. (Min: 1.3 mL) Adequate preservation is 20 mg oxalic acid to 1 mL plasma.
Remarks: CRITICAL FROZEN. Separate samples must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered. The oxalic acid preservative may interfere with other tests. Fasting samples are preferred. Special collection tubes are available through ARUP Client Services.
Unacceptable Conditions: Serum and hemolyzed plasma. Nonfrozen samples, and samples that are not preserved with oxalic acid.
Stability (collection to initiation of testing): After separation from cells: Ambient: Unacceptable; Refrigerated: Unacceptable; Frozen (with oxalic acid preservative added): 2 months
