Specimen Required: Patient Prep:  In patients receiving therapy with high biotin doses (i.e. >5 mg/day), no sample should be taken until at least 8 hours after the last biotin administration.

Collect:  One 6 mL serum separator tube, one 5 mL pink (K2EDTA) or green (sodium heparin).

Storage/Transport Temperature:  1 mL serum or plasma, frozen. (Min:  0.5 mL) Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport tube.

Unacceptable Conditions:  Hemolyzed, heparinized, specimens received in plasma separator tubes.

Stability (collection to initiation of testing):  After separation from cells: Ambient: 8 hours; Refrigerated: 8 hours; Frozen: 3 months
