Wildcards Symbol (*)

The wildcard symbol (*) can be used in place of letters or characters in query words to search for different permutations of a word.

*	Can be in any position in the term and matches any number of characters.
Examples:	hemo*	matches hemolytic, hemophilia and hemophilia
	*NA	matches DNA and RNA
	*tet**	matches text and test
	BCL*	matches bcl-1/JH and bcl-2/JH
	virus*	matches virus or viruses
	*glucan*	matches beta-1,3-d-Glucan

Boolean Parameters

Search terms can be a single word or several words. The search engine automatically inserts and between words if nothing else is specified, so the Boolean term and can be omitted in search terms. For example, searching for tissue assay is the same as searching for tissue AND assay.

Quotes can be used to search for phrases. For example:

"tissue assay "

Words must be present in the specified order with no intervening words

The following boolean connectors can be used: AND, OR, NOT Examples:

tissue AND assay	Both words must be present
tissue OR assay	Either word can be present
assay NOT tissue	Only assay can be present, tissue cannot appear on the page

Methodology:	Chemiluminescent Immunoassay

Reported:	Within 24 hours
Specimen Required:	Collect: One 4 mL serum separator tube. Also acceptable: lavender (EDTA) or pink (K₂EDTA). Storage/Transport Temperature: 1 mL serum or plasma, frozen. (Min: 0.5 mL) Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. Remarks: Allow serum to clot completely at room temperature. Separate serum or plasma from cells ASAP. Unacceptable Conditions: Heparinized plasma or I.V. fluid. Specimens collected in potassium oxalate/sodium fluoride tubes. Hemolyzed specimens. Stability (collection to initiation of testing): After separation from cells: Ambient: 8 hours; Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: 1 month

Reference Interval: Not established.
Interpretive Data:	To convert to pmol/L, multiply µIU/mL by 6.0. The reference interval for a fasting insulin is 3-19 µlU/mL. This assay reacts on a nearly equimolar basis with insulin aspart, insulin glargine, and insulin lispro.
