Specimen Required: Collect:  One 4 mL plasma separator tube or serum separator tube.  Also acceptable: green (sodium or lithium heparin), lavender (EDTA), or pink (K2EDTA). 

Transport:  1 mL serum or plasma at 2-8°C. (Min: 0.4 mL)  Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.

Remarks:  Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature.  Separate serum or plasma from cells ASAP.

Unacceptable Conditions:  Grossly hemolyzed or lipemic specimens.

Stability:  After separation from cells: Ambient: 3 days; Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: 2 months
