Wildcards Symbol (*)

The wildcard symbol (*) can be used in place of letters or characters in query words to search for different permutations of a word.

*	Can be in any position in the term and matches any number of characters.
Examples:	hemo*	matches hemolytic, hemophilia and hemophilia
	*NA	matches DNA and RNA
	*tet**	matches text and test
	BCL*	matches bcl-1/JH and bcl-2/JH
	virus*	matches virus or viruses
	*glucan*	matches beta-1,3-d-Glucan

Boolean Parameters

Search terms can be a single word or several words. The search engine automatically inserts and between words if nothing else is specified, so the Boolean term and can be omitted in search terms. For example, searching for tissue assay is the same as searching for tissue AND assay.

Quotes can be used to search for phrases. For example:

"tissue assay "

Words must be present in the specified order with no intervening words

The following boolean connectors can be used: AND, OR, NOT Examples:

Reported:	Within 24 hours
Specimen Required:	Collect: One 4 mL serum separator tube. Also acceptable: green (sodium or lithium heparin). Transport: 0.5 mL serum or plasma, frozen. (Min: 0.3 mL) Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. Unacceptable Conditions: Grossly Hemolyzed specimens. Stability: After separation from cells: Ambient: 2 hours; Refrigerated: 2 days; Frozen: 1 year

Interpretive Data:

Liver alkaline phosphatase can affect the measurement of bone specific alkaline phosphatase in this assay. Each 100 U/L of liver alkaline phosphatase contributes an additional 2.5 to 5.8 µg/L to the bone specific alkaline phosphatase result.

Note:

Reference intervals have not been established for children younger than 7 years of age or males 18-24 years.
