Search Tips

Wildcards Symbol (*)

The wildcard symbol (*) can be used in place of letters or characters in query words to search for different permutations of a word.

*	Can be in any position in the term and matches any number of characters.
Examples:	hemo*	matches hemolytic, hemophilia and hemophilia
	*NA	matches DNA and RNA
	*tet**	matches text and test
	BCL*	matches bcl-1/JH and bcl-2/JH
	virus*	matches virus or viruses
	*glucan*	matches beta-1,3-d-Glucan

Boolean Parameters

Search terms can be a single word or several words. The search engine automatically inserts and between words if nothing else is specified, so the Boolean term and can be omitted in search terms. For example, searching for tissue assay is the same as searching for tissue AND assay.

Quotes can be used to search for phrases. For example:

"tissue assay "

Words must be present in the specified order with no intervening words

The following boolean connectors can be used: AND, OR, NOT Examples:

tissue AND assay	Both words must be present
tissue OR assay	Either word can be present
assay NOT tissue	Only assay can be present, tissue cannot appear on the page

Methodology:	Chemiluminescent Immunoassay
Performed:	Sun-Sat
Reported:	Within 24 hours
Specimen Required:	Collect: Serum separator tube or plain red. Specimen Preparation: Specimen needs to sit for 15-20 minutes for proper clot formation and to assure the absence of fibrin in the serum which can interfere with this assay. Separate serum from cells within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 2 mL serum to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. (Min: 0.5 mL) Storage/Transport Temperature: Frozen. Remarks: This test is not appropriate for tumor marker studies and should not be performed on males. Unacceptable Conditions: Plasma. Specimens exposed to repeated freeze/thaw cycles. Test ordered for tumor markers or on males. Stability (collection to initiation of testing): After separation from cells: Ambient: 8 hours; Refrigerated: 48 hours; Frozen: 6 months

Reference Interval: Female: Less than 5 IU/L
