0065109: Parvovirus B 19 Antibodies Seroconversion, IgG & IgM

Test Mnemonic: PARVO SERO
Methodology: Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay

Performed: Sun-Sat

Reported: 1-3 days

Specimen Required:
Collect: One 4 mL SST acute sample and one 4 mL SST convalescent specimen.  Also acceptable: 3 mL lavender (EDTA) or green (sodium or lithium heparin).

Transport: 0.5 mL serum or plasma from acute sample and 0.5 mL serum or plasma from convalescent specimen at 2-8°C. (Min: 0.2 mL each)  Submit specimens in ARUP Standard Transport Tubes.

Pediatric Collection/Transport: 0.1 mL serum or plasma from acute sample and 0.1 mL serum or plasma from convalescent specimen at 2-8°C.

Remarks: Separate serum or plasma from cells ASAP.  Please mark specimens clearly as "acute" or "convalescent" with appropriate draw dates.  If acute specimen was previously tested by ARUP, convalescent specimen must be submitted within 30 days if seroconversion comparison testing is desired.  Testing will not be performed unless both acute and convalescent specimens are available.

Unacceptable Conditions: Heat-inactivated, severely lipemic, hemolyzed, icteric or contaminated specimens.

Stability: After separation from cells: Ambient: 2 days; Refrigerated: 5 days; Frozen: 1 year (avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles)

Reference Interval:

Test Number Components Reference Interval
Parvovirus B19 Antibody, IgG Acute 0.89 IV or less: Negative - No significant level of detectable Parvovirus B19 IgG antibody.
0.90-1.10 IV: Equivocal - Repeat testing in 10-14 days may be helpful.
1.11 IV or greater: Positive - IgG antibody to Parvovirus B19 detected which may indicate a current or past infection.
Parvovirus B19 Antibody, IgG Convalescent 0.89 IV or less: Negative - No significant level of detectable Parvovirus B19 IgG antibody.
0.90-1.10 IV: Equivocal - Repeat testing in 10-14 days may be helpful.
1.11 IV or greater: Positive - IgG antibody to Parvovirus B19 detected which may indicate a current or past infection.
Parvovirus B19 Antibody, IgM Acute 0.89 IV or less: Negative - No significant level of detectable Parvovirus B19 IgM antibody.
0.90-1.10 IV: Equivocal - Repeat testing in 10-14 days may be helpful.
1.11 IV or greater: Positive - IgM antibody to Parvovirus B19 detected which may indicate a current or recent infection.  However, low levels of IgM antibodies may occasionally persist for more than 12 months post-infection.
Parvovirus B19 Antibody, IgM Convalescent 0.89 IV or less: Negative - No significant level of detectable Parvovirus B19 IgM antibody.
