Interpretive Data:
Nucleic-acid amplification tests (NAAT) are superior to direct DNA probe testing for detection of Chlamydia trachomatis.  For NAAT, refer to Chlamydia trachomatis & Neisseria gonorrhoeae by Amplified Detection (APTIMA®) (0060241) or Chlamydia trachomatis by Amplified Detection (APTIMA®) (0060243).  Closely observe instructions for specimen collection and transport using test-specific kits provided by the manufacturer for each specimen type.  Culture is recommended for Chlamydia trachomatis detection in cases of suspected sexual abuse or suspected failure of therapy.

Note:
Amplification tests are recommended for detection of Chlamydia trachomatis from genitourinary sources.  Refer to Chlamydia trachomatis by Amplified DNA Detection (APTIMA®) (0060243).  Direct DNA probe testing is appropriate only for endocervical, urethral, and conjunctival specimens.  Specimens must be collected and transported in test-specific kits provided by the manufacturer.  Culture is recommended for Chlamydia trachomatis detection in cases of suspected sexual abuse or suspected failure of therapy.
