Specimen Required: Collect:  Actively growing yeast, in pure culture, on agar slant. Specimen source is preferred.

Transport:  Organism in pure culture in a sealed container at 20-25°C.

Submit specimen according to Biological Substance, Category B, shipping guidelines.


Pediatric Collection/Transport:  

Submit specimen according to Biological Substance, Category B, shipping guidelines.


Remarks:  Additional patient history may be helpful.

Unacceptable Conditions:  Nonviable organisms, mixed cultures, and leaking containers.

Stability:  Ambient: 2 weeks; Refrigerated: 2 weeks; Frozen: Unacceptable

Complete identification of clinically significant isolates.

Note: An additional handling charge will be billed for all organisms submitted for identification that are not in pure culture as indicated in the specimen requirements.

Testing to differentiate C. albicans and C. dubliniensis is performed only on isolates from sterile body sites.
