Wildcards Symbol (*)

The wildcard symbol (*) can be used in place of letters or characters in query words to search for different permutations of a word.

*	Can be in any position in the term and matches any number of characters.
Examples:	hemo*	matches hemolytic, hemophilia and hemophilia
	*NA	matches DNA and RNA
	*tet**	matches text and test
	BCL*	matches bcl-1/JH and bcl-2/JH
	virus*	matches virus or viruses
	*glucan*	matches beta-1,3-d-Glucan

Boolean Parameters

Search terms can be a single word or several words. The search engine automatically inserts and between words if nothing else is specified, so the Boolean term and can be omitted in search terms. For example, searching for tissue assay is the same as searching for tissue AND assay.

Quotes can be used to search for phrases. For example:

"tissue assay "

Words must be present in the specified order with no intervening words

The following boolean connectors can be used: AND, OR, NOT Examples:

Specimen Required:	Collect: CSF. Specimen Preparation: Transfer 1 mL CSF to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. (Min: 0.5 mL). Storage/Transport Temperature: Refrigerated. Also acceptable: Frozen. Submit specimen according to Biological Substance, Category B, shipping guidelines. Unacceptable Conditions: Specimen types other than CSF. Stability (collection to initiation of testing): Stability: Ambient: 24 hours; Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: 1 week

Reference Interval: Negative
Interpretive Data:	False-positives may occur because of cross-reactivity with other members of S. mitis group. Clinical correlation is recommended.
Note:	Patients who have received the S. pneumoniae vaccines may test positive in the 48 hours following vaccination. It is recommended to avoid testing within five days of receiving vaccination
