Reported: 2-3 days
Specimen Required: Collect: Cervical, urethral, rectal, or eye swab. Preserve specimen in Chlamydia transport media (ARUP Supply#12884) immediately. Source of specimen is preferred.

Storage/Transport Temperature: Specimen in Chlamydia transport media at 2-8°C.

Submit specimen according to Biological Substance, Category B, shipping guidelines.


Remarks: Do not freeze. Also acceptable for newborns: nasopharyngeal aspirate/washing/swab. Preserve and send specimen in Chlamydia transport media immediately. Source of specimen is preferred.

Unacceptable Conditions: Urine. Samples not collected in Chlamydia culture transport media. Dry swabs, wood swabs, and calcium alginate swabs.

Stability (collection to initiation of testing): Ambient: 1 hour; Refrigerated: 2 days; Frozen: Unacceptable
Reference Interval:
Culture negative for Chlamydia trachomatis.
Note: Amplified DNA testing is recommended for detection of Chlamydia trachomatis from endocervical or urethral specimens.  Refer to Chlamydia trachomatis by Amplified Detection (APTIMA®) (0060243). Specimen must be collected and transported with test-specific kit.  Culture is recommended for Chlamydia trachomatis detection in suspected sexual abuse and for suspected failure of therapy.
