Specimen Required:  
Collect: One 5 mL lavender (EDTA) or pink (K2EDTA). Specimen source is required.

Transport: 1 mL whole blood in a sterile container, at 2-8°C. (Min: 0.25 mL)

Submit specimen according to Biological Substance, Category B, shipping guidelines.

Pediatric Collection/Transport: 0.25 mL whole blood in a sterile container, at 2-8°C.

Submit specimen according to Biological Substance, Category B, shipping guidelines.

Unacceptable Conditions: Heparinized or hemolyzed specimens.

Stability: Ambient: 8 hours; Refrigerated: 3 days; Frozen: Unacceptable

Reference Interval:
Negative - Bartonella species DNA not detected by PCR
Positive - Bartonella species DNA detected by PCR

Interpretive Data:
A negative result does not rule out the presence of PCR inhibitors in the patient specimen or Bartonella species DNA concentrations below the level of detection of the assay.
