Specimen Required:  
Collect: Tissue, biopsy.  Source of specimen is required.

Transport: Sterile container or Anaerobic Gel Transport Tube at 20-25°C.

Submit specimen according to Biological Substance, Category B, shipping guidelines.

Pediatric Collection/Transport:

Submit specimen according to Biological Substance, Category B, shipping guidelines.

Remarks: Use sterile nonbacteriostatic saline to prevent drying.

Unacceptable Conditions: Nonsterile or leaking containers, dry specimens, formalinized specimens.

Stability: Ambient: 24 hours; Refrigerated: Unacceptable; Frozen: Unacceptable

Reference Interval:
No growth.
Identification and susceptibility tests are performed on positive cultures.

Note:
Gram stain, anaerobe culture, identification, and susceptibility tests are billed separately from culture.
