Collect: Respiratory tract secretions and aspirates, tissues, fluids, sputum, abscess material. Source of specimen is required.
*ExistCollect> #ExistTransport> Transport: Two prepared slides at 20-25°C or fluid in a sterile container. If delay in transport (greater than 24 hours) freeze at -20°C or, preferably, -70°C and transport frozen. Submit specimen according to Biological Substance, Category B, shipping guidelines. *ExistTransport> #ExistPedCollectTransport> Pediatric Collection/Transport: Submit specimen according to Biological Substance, Category B, shipping guidelines. *ExistPedCollectTransport> #ExistRemarks> Remarks: To prevent drying, submit specimen in sterile, nonbacteriostatic water. Do not use saline in specimen collection. Culture in addition to DFA is recommended (Legionella Species, Culture (0060113)). Client will be notified of positive DFA. *ExistRemarks> #ExistConditions> Unacceptable Conditions: Urine, stool, wounds, or other culture material from non-respiratory sites.
