Specimen Required:  
Collect: Stool or gastric fluids.  Preserve stool in 10% formalin.  (ARUP Supply #16355). Gastric fluids should be submitted unpreserved (ARUP Supply #40910).

Transport: Stool in 10% formalin at 20-25°C. Gastric fluids in clean, leak-proof container at 2-8°C.

Submit specimen according to Biological Substance, Category B, shipping guidelines.

Pediatric Collection/Transport:

Submit specimen according to Biological Substance, Category B, shipping guidelines.

Unacceptable Conditions: Samples other then stool or gastric fluids. For respiratory samples (BAL or Sputum) contact technical section for guidance on alternative testing.

Stability: Preserved in formalin: Ambient: 9 months; Refrigerated: 9 months; Frozen: Unacceptable

Interpretive Data:
This modified acid fast stain detects the presence of cryptosporidium, cyclospora and isospora.
