Specimen Required:  
Collect: Bone marrow aspirate (lavender, EDTA). Specimen source is required.

Transport: 1 mL bone marrow at 2-8°C. 

Submit specimen according to Biological Substance, Category B, shipping guidelines.

Pediatric Collection/Transport: 0.5 mL bone marrow at 2-8°C.  Less volume may decrease sensitivity of assay.

Submit specimen according to Biological Substance, Category B, shipping guidelines.

Unacceptable Conditions: Nonsterile or leaking containers.  Heparinized or hemolyzed samples.  Frozen bone marrow.

Stability: Ambient: 8 hours; Refrigerated: 3 days; Frozen: Unacceptable

Reference Interval:
Negative - Parvovirus B19 DNA not detected by PCR.
Positive - Parvovirus B19 DNA detected by PCR.

Interpretive Data:
A negative result does not rule out the presence of PCR inhibitors in the patient specimen or parvovirus DNA in concentrations below the level of detection of the assay.
