Specimen Required: Collect: Respiratory specimen: sputum, lung washes, tracheal aspirates, nasopharyngeal swab, pleural fluid, bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL), bronchial brushings. Specimen source is required.

Storage/Transport Temperature: 2 mL respiratory specimen in sterile container or in viral transport media (Microtest M4 or UTM) (ARUP supply #12884), frozen. (Min: 1 mL)

Submit specimen according to Biological Substance, Category B, shipping guidelines.


Remarks: CRITICAL FROZEN. Separate samples must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.

Unacceptable Conditions: Dry swabs and nonsterile or leaking containers. Respiratory aspirates in collection containers with tubing. Specimen tends to leak from these containers, compromising the specimen.

Stability (collection to initiation of testing): Ambient: 4 hours; Refrigerated: 12 hours; Frozen: 6 months
Interpretive Data: This test is performed pursuant to an agreement with Roche Molecular Systems, Inc.
