Methodology: Chemiluminescent Immunoassay/Tandem Mass Spectrometry

Performed: Sun-Sat

Reported: Next day for Vitamin B12; 4-6 days if MMA is performed

Specimen Required:  
Collect: One 7 mL plain red or SST. 

Transport: 3 mL serum, frozen. (Min: 1.5 mL) Submit specimen in an ARUP Amber Transport Tube. Protect from light.

Pediatric Collection/Transport: 2 mL serum, frozen. (Min: 1.5 mL) Protect from light. 

Remarks: Protect from light during collection, storage and shipment.

Unacceptable Conditions: Plasma.  Grossly hemolyzed or lipemic specimens.

Stability: After separation from cells: Ambient: 8 hours; Refrigerated: 2 days; Frozen: 1 month
