Specimen Required: Collect:  One 4 mL serum separator tube.

Transport:  1 mL serum at 2-8°C.  (Min: 0.5 mL)  Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.

Pediatric Collection/Transport:  0.2 mL serum at 2-8°C. 

Unacceptable Conditions:  Hemolyzed, lipemic, contaminated, or heat-inactivated specimens.

Stability:  After separation from cells: Ambient: 2 days; Refrigerated: 2 weeks; Frozen: 1 year (avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles)
Reference Interval:
0.0-20.0 U: Negative
20.1-24.9 U: Equivocal
Greater than or equal to 25.0 U: Positive
Interpretive Data: The presence of SLA antibodies has almost 100% specificity for autoimmune hepatitis, although only 12-30% have these antibodies.  Thus, a negative SLA IgG test does not rule out autoimmune hepatitis.
