Mnemonic: IRAK-4

Methodology: Cell Culture/Multi-Analyte Fluorescence Detection
Performed: Tue-Fri
Reported: 3-5 days
Specimen Required: Collect:  One 4 mL green (sodium heparin) AND a normal control in one 4 mL green (sodium heparin) from a healthy unrelated individual. Also acceptable: Yellow (ACD solution A).

Transport:  4 mL whole blood AND 4 mL normal control whole blood in sterile containers at 20-25°C. LIVE LYMPHOCYTES REQUIRED.

Interpretive Data: Deficiency in cytokine production in response to stimulation suggests possibility of defect in Interleukin-1-Receptor-Associated Kinase-4 (IRAK-4), which may result in recurrent pneumococcal and/or staphylococcal infections, in absence of other abnormalities of host defense.

Please refer to Statement B in the Compliance Statements section in the front of the Laboratory Test Directory.
Note: Interpretation comparing the patient results to the client normal control, as well as the laboratory control, will be provided by the medical director.
