Specimen Required: Collect:  One 4 mL serum separator tube.

Transport:  1 mL serum or plasma at 2-8°C. Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.

Submit specimen according to Biological Substance, Category B, shipping guidelines.


Pediatric Collection/Transport:  0.3 mL serum or plasma at 2-8°C.

Submit specimen according to Biological Substance, Category B, shipping guidelines.


Remarks:  EDTA, heparin, or citrated plasma is also acceptable.  Separate serum or plasma from cells ASAP.

Stability:  After separation from cells: Ambient: 1 week is acceptable but not preferred; Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: Indefinitely (avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles).
