Specimen Required:  
Collect: One 3 mL plain red, lavender (EDTA), pink (K2EDTA), green (sodium or lithium heparin), amniotic fluid, or cell-free tissue culture supernatant.

Transport: 1 mL serum, plasma, amniotic fluid, or cell-free tissue culture supernatant, frozen. (Min: 0.5 mL)  Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.

Pediatric Collection/Transport: 0.3 mL serum, plasma, amniotic fluid, or cell-free tissue culture supernatant, frozen.

Remarks: CRITICAL FROZEN.  Separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered.  Separate serum, plasma, or fluid within 30 minutes from cells and freeze.  Avoid freeze/thaw cycles.

Unacceptable Conditions: Heat-inactivated or contaminated specimens.

Stability: After separation from cells: Ambient: 30 minutes; Refrigerated: Unacceptable; Frozen: 1 year

Note:
Interleukin 2 receptor is present at low levels in serum of healthy individuals and is significantly elevated in a broad range of disorders, including autoimmune diseases, organ allograft rejection, and a variety of infections.
