0050478: Treponema pallidum (Rapid Plasma Reagin) with Reflex to Titer & TP-PA Confirmation

Test Mnemonic: RPR PAN
Methodology: Refer to individual components

Performed: Sun-Sat

Reported: 1-4 days

Specimen Required:
Collect: One 4 mL SST.

Transport: 1 mL serum at 2-8°C. (Min: 0.5 mL)  Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.

Pediatric Collection/Transport: 0.25 mL serum at 2-8°C.

Remarks: Separate serum from cells ASAP. Plasma is also acceptable if testing is completed before the specimen is 48 hours old.  Do not freeze.

Unacceptable Conditions: CSF and other body fluids.

Stability: After separation from cells: Ambient: 2 days; Refrigerated: 2 weeks; Frozen: 1 year (avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles)

Reference Interval:

Test Number Components Reference Interval
 Treponema pallidum (RPR) Nonreactive
Treponema pallidum (RPR) Titer < 1:2
Treponema pallidum Antibody by TP-PA Nonreactive

Note:
This panel is for clients in states where automatic confirmation using a treponemal test is required for all reactive RPR tests.
If RPR is weakly reactive or reactive, then a titer to endpoint and TP-PA confirmation will be added.

CPT Code(s):
86592 Treponema pallidum screen; if reflexed, add 86593 Treponema pallidum titer and 86781 Treponema pallidum (MHA) confirmation
