0050334: Brucella Antibody, IgG

Test Mnemonic: BRUC IGG
Methodology: Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay

Performed: Tue, Thu

Reported: 1-6 days

Specimen Required:
Collect: One 4 mL SST or plain red.

Transport: 1 mL serum at 2-8°C. (Min: 0.2 mL)  Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.

Pediatric Collection/Transport: 0.1 mL serum, frozen.

Remarks: Acute and convalescent specimens must be labeled as such; parallel testing is preferred and convalescent specimens must be received within 30 days from receipt of the acute specimens. Please mark specimen plainly as "acute" or "convalescent."

Unacceptable Conditions: Hemolyzed, lipemic, heat-inactivated, or contaminated specimens.

Stability: After separation from cells: Ambient: 2 days; Refrigerated: 2 weeks; Frozen: 1 year

Reference Interval:
0.89 IV or less: Negative - No significant level of detectable Brucella IgG antibody.
0.90-1.10 IV: Equivocal - Questionable presence of Brucella IgG antibody.  Repeat testing in 10-14 days may be helpful.
1.11 IV or greater: Positive - IgG antibody to Brucella detected, which may indicate current or past infection.

Interpretive Data:
The best evidence for current infection is a significant change on two appropriately timed specimens, where both tests are done in the same laboratory at the same time.  This assay may not detect antibodies to B. canis.
