Beta-2 Glycoprotein 1 Antibodies, IgG & IgM : 0050321

Mnemonic: B2GPI PAN

Ordering Recommendation: Acceptable initial test for strong suspicion of antiphospholipid syndrome (APS). Order with lupus anticoagulant (LA) (0030181) and anticardiolipin (aCL) IgG and IgM (0099344) assays.
Methodology: Semi-Quantitative Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay
Performed: Sun-Sat
Reported: 1-2 days
Specimen Required: Collect: Serum separator tube.

Specimen Preparation: Separate serum from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 0.5 mL serum to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. (Min: 0.3 mL)

Storage/Transport Temperature: Refrigerated.

Unacceptable Conditions: Plasma or other body fluids. Contaminated, hemolyzed, grossly icteric, or severely lipemic specimens.

Stability (collection to initiation of testing): After separation from cells: Ambient: 48 hours; Refrigerated: 2 weeks; Frozen: 1 year (avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles)

Reference Interval:

Test Number Components Reference Interval
 Beta-2 Glycoprotein 1 Antibody, IgG 0-20 SGU
 Beta-2 Glycoprotein 1 Antibody, IgM 0-20 SMU

Interpretive Data: An IgG and/or IgM result of greater than 20 SGU and/or SMU on at least two occasions and at least 12 weeks apart is suggestive of antiphospholipid syndrome. Diagnosis should NOT be made solely on the basis of a single specimen.
