0050215: dsDNA (Double Stranded DNA) Antibody, IgG

Test Mnemonic: DNA
Methodology: Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay/Indirect Fluorescent Antibody

Performed: Sun-Sat

Reported: 1-3 days

Specimen Required:
Collect: One 4 mL SST.

Transport: 1 mL serum at 2-8°C. (Min: 0.5 mL)  Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.

Pediatric Collection/Transport: 0.15 mL serum at 2-8°C.

Remarks: Separate serum from cells ASAP.

Unacceptable Conditions: Plasma.  Severely lipemic, contaminated, or hemolyzed specimen
s.

Stability: After separation from cells: Ambient: 2 days; Refrigerated: 2 weeks; Frozen 1 year (avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles)

Reference Interval:
None detected.

Interpretive Data:
dsDNA antibodies are screened using an ELISA assay. Positive results are titered by IFA. "None detected" correlates with an IFA titer of less than 1:10.

Note:
dsDNA antibodies (1:10 or greater) are found in 50-60% of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), 20-30% in Sjögren syndrome, 20-25% in mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD), and less than 5% in progressive systemic sclerosis (PSS). High titers of antibody to native (double stranded) DNA are specific for SLE.
