Specimen Required: Collect: Serum separator tube.

Specimen Preparation: Separate serum from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 1 mL serum to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. (Min: 0.4 mL) Also acceptable: CSF or pleural fluid (centrifuge and separate to remove cellular material).

Storage/Transport Temperature: Refrigerated.

Unacceptable Conditions: Hemolyzed specimens.

Stability (collection to initiation of testing): After separation from cells: Ambient: 8 hours; Refrigerated: 8 days; Frozen: 1 year (if frozen within 24 hours). Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles. Ambient: 8 hour sample prep time.
