Ki-67 Tissue Assay, Paraffin : 0049270

Mnemonic: KI67 IP

Methodology: Immunohistochemistry
Performed: Mon-Fri
Reported: Within 5 days
Specimen Required: Collect: Tumor tissue.

Specimen Preparation: Formalin fix and paraffin embed tumor enriched tissue. Protect from excessive heat.

Storage/Transport Temperature: Room temperature. Ship in cooled container during summer months.

Remarks: Include surgical pathology report.

Unacceptable Conditions: Paraffin block with no tumor tissue remaining. Specimens fixed in B-5 or Bouin's fixative.

Stability (collection to initiation of testing): Ambient: Indefinitely; Refrigerated: Acceptable; Frozen: Unacceptable
Interpretive Data: The Ki-67 antigen is used to estimate the growth fraction of a tumor cell population. In many malignancies, a high Ki-67 value generally correlates with an aggressive behavior. Results of this test should be interpreted with caution on the context of other data.
Assay is performed on paraffin-embedded, formalin-fixed tissue. Antibody clone is MIB-1 and the detection system is LSAB.
