Specimen Required:  
Collect: Peripheral Blood: One 5 mL lavender (EDTA) or pink (K2 EDTA), or one 7 mL green (sodium or lithium heparin).  Bone Marrow: 1 mL heparinized aspirate.

Transport: Peripheral Blood: 5 mL whole blood and six unfixed smears; Bone Marrow: 1 mL heparinized aspirate and six unfixed smears. Transport at 20-25°C.  Send Sunday-Thursday only.

Pediatric Collection/Transport: Peripheral Blood: 1 mL whole blood (EDTA) and six unfixed smears or 1 mL whole blood (green, heparin) and six unfixed smears.  Bone Marrow: 1 mL heparinized aspirate and 6 unfixed smears.

Remarks: Samples must be received within 24 hours of collection; testing must be performed within 48 hours of collection.

Unacceptable Conditions: Stool specimens or stool slides.  Fixed blood or bone marrow smears.

Stability: Ambient: 24 hours
