Search Tips

Wildcards Symbol (*)

The wildcard symbol (*) can be used in place of letters or characters in query words to search for different permutations of a word.

*	Can be in any position in the term and matches any number of characters.
Examples:	hemo*	matches hemolytic, hemophilia and hemophilia
	*NA	matches DNA and RNA
	*tet**	matches text and test
	BCL*	matches bcl-1/JH and bcl-2/JH
	virus*	matches virus or viruses
	*glucan*	matches beta-1,3-d-Glucan

Boolean Parameters

Search terms can be a single word or several words. The search engine automatically inserts and between words if nothing else is specified, so the Boolean term and can be omitted in search terms. For example, searching for tissue assay is the same as searching for tissue AND assay.

Quotes can be used to search for phrases. For example:

"tissue assay "

Words must be present in the specified order with no intervening words

The following boolean connectors can be used: AND, OR, NOT Examples:

tissue AND assay	Both words must be present
tissue OR assay	Either word can be present
assay NOT tissue	Only assay can be present, tissue cannot appear on the page

Methodology: Enzyme Immunoassay Performed: Sun-Sat Reported: Within 24 hours

Specimen Required:
Collect: One 3 mL lt. blue (3.2% sodium citrate). Transport: 3 mL plasma at 20-25°C. Sample MUST be received in lab and run within four hours of draw. Remarks: Separate plasma from cells ASAP. Unacceptable Conditions: Serum. Stability: After separation from cells: Ambient: 4 hours; Refrigerated: Unacceptable; Frozen: Will accept sample frozen up to 24 hours

Interpretive Data:

This test is intended for use as one component of a clinical algorithm for determining the likelihood that an outpatient has venous thromboembolism (VTE). Patients with negative values are unlikely to have VTE; however, false negatives may occur more commonly in patients with cancer. Positive results are not useful due to the poor positive predictive value of the test. This test is not currently available for inpatient testing due to low specificity. This test is not useful for diagnosing or following patients with DIC. The cutoff value is greater than or equal to 500 ng/mL.
