Wildcards Symbol (*)

The wildcard symbol (*) can be used in place of letters or characters in query words to search for different permutations of a word.

*	Can be in any position in the term and matches any number of characters.
Examples:	hemo*	matches hemolytic, hemophilia and hemophilia
	*NA	matches DNA and RNA
	*tet**	matches text and test
	BCL*	matches bcl-1/JH and bcl-2/JH
	virus*	matches virus or viruses
	*glucan*	matches beta-1,3-d-Glucan

Boolean Parameters

Search terms can be a single word or several words. The search engine automatically inserts and between words if nothing else is specified, so the Boolean term and can be omitted in search terms. For example, searching for tissue assay is the same as searching for tissue AND assay.

Quotes can be used to search for phrases. For example:

"tissue assay "

Words must be present in the specified order with no intervening words

The following boolean connectors can be used: AND, OR, NOT Examples:

tissue AND assay	Both words must be present
tissue OR assay	Either word can be present
assay NOT tissue	Only assay can be present, tissue cannot appear on the page

Reported:	Within 24 hours
Specimen Required:	Collect: 24-hour urine. Random specimens are also acceptable. Refrigerate during collection. . Storage/Transport Temperature: 4 mL aliquot from a 24-hour or random collection at 2-8°C. (Min: 0.5 mL) Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. Remarks: Adjust pH to less than or equal to 2 by adding 6M HCl. Specimens previously preserved with boric acid are acceptable. Record total volume, collection time interval, and pH on transport tube and test request form. Stability (collection to initiation of testing): Ambient: 8 hours; Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: Indefinitely
