Hepatitis C Virus Antibody with Reflex to Supplemental RIBA : 0020700

Mnemonic: HCVRPAN

Methodology: Chemiluminescent Assay/Recombinant Immunoblot Assay
Performed: Wed-Sat
Reported: 1-5 days
Specimen Required: Collect:  One 4 mL serum separator tube.

Transport:  1 mL serum at 2-8°C. (Min: 0.5 mL)  Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.

Submit specimen according to Biological Substance, Category B, shipping guidelines.

Pediatric Collection/Transport:  0.1 mL serum at 2-8°C.

Submit specimen according to Biological Substance, Category B, shipping guidelines.

Remarks:  EDTA plasma is acceptable. Separate serum from cells ASAP.

Unacceptable Conditions:  Specimens containing particulate material.

Stability:  After separation from cells: Ambient: Up to 1 week is acceptable, but not preferred; Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: Indefinitely (avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles)
Reference Interval:

Test Number Components Reference Interval
0020099Hepatitis C Virus Antibody Negative
0020104Hepatitis C Virus Antibody (RIBA), Supplemental Negative

Interpretive Data: Hepatitis C Virus Antibody is performed using chemiluminescent immunoassay.

Anti-HCV Signal Cutoff (S/C) Ratios (CIA):
    Less than 1.0 .......... Negative
    1.0 to 8.0................. Low Positive
Greater than 8.0 ..... High Positive

ARUP intends use of this assay for clinical diagnosis.  This assay should not be used for blood donor screening, associated re-entry protocols, or for screening Human Cell, Tissues and Cellular and Tissue-Based Products (HCT/P).

Note: If HCV Ab screen is Low Positive (s/c = 1.00 to 8.00), then anti-HCV recombinant immunoblot (RIBA) will be added. For high-positive anti-HCV screening results, ARUP recommends collecting a new specimen and testing for hepatitis C RNA by PCR or bDNA.
CPT Code(s): 86803 HCVAB; if reflexed, add 86804 HCVAB RIBA
