Specimen Required:  
Collect: One 4 mL SST, one 3 mL lavender (EDTA), pink (K2EDTA), or green (sodium or lithium heparin). 

Transport: 0.5 mL serum or plasma at 2-8°C.

Pediatric Collection/Transport: 0.1 mL serum or plasma at 2-8°C.

Remarks: Allow sample to clot completely at room temperature.  Separate serum or plasma from cells ASAP.  Sample must be drawn prior to surgery or more than two days following surgery. Do not draw in recovery room. (EDTA plasma acceptable if removed from cells ASAP.) Plasma values slightly lower than serum.

Unacceptable Conditions: Whole blood on clot and hemolyzed samples.

Stability: Ambient: 4 hours; Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: 3 months
