Hepatitis C Virus Antibody (RIBA), Supplemental : 0020104

Specimen Required: Collect: One 4 mL serum separator tube.

Storage/Transport Temperature: 1 mL serum at 2-8°C. (Min: 0.5 mL) Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.

Submit specimen according to Biological Substance, Category B, shipping guidelines.


Remarks:  Potassium EDTA plasma is also acceptable. Separate serum or plasma from cells ASAP.

Unacceptable Conditions:  Specimens containing particulate material. Severely hemolyzed or lipemic specimens. Heat inactivated specimens.

Stability (collection to initiation of testing):  After separation from cells: Ambient: Unacceptable; Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: Indefinitely (avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles)

Interpretive Data: ARUP intends use of this assay for clinical diagnosis.  This assay should not be used for blood donor screening, associated re-entry protocols, or for screening Human Cell, Tissues and Cellular and Tissue-Based Products (HCT/P).
Note: This test is recommended for specimens with prior low positive anti-HCV screening results. For high positive anti-HCV screening results, ARUP recommends collecting a new specimen and testing for hepatitis C RNA by PCR or bDNA.
