Specimen Required: Collect:  One 5 mL green (sodium or lithium heparin).  Collect on ice.

Storage/Transport Temperature:  2 mL plasma, frozen. (Min: 0.25 mL)  Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.

Remarks:  CRITICAL FROZEN. Separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered. Collect on ice and separate plasma from cells and freeze ASAP (within 15 minutes of draw time).  Specimens need to be spun in a refrigerated centrifuge.

Unacceptable Conditions:  Serum or nonfrozen plasma. Specimens containing oxalate, citrate, or EDTA.  Do not ship whole blood.

Stability (collection to initiation of testing):  After separation from cells: Ambient: Unacceptable; Refrigerated: Unacceptable; Frozen: 6 months (unstable if thawed and refrozen)

2-14 days: 56-92 µmol/L
15 days-17 years: 21-50 µmol/L
18 years and older: 0-27 µmol/L
