| SALT LAKE CITY, March 22, 2001 — ARUP Laboratories,
Inc. (www.aruplab.com), a national, specialty diagnostic reference laboratory,
announced that it has signed a three-year agreement with Novation, the
supply company of VHA, Inc. and the University HealthSystem Consortium
(UHC). Representing 2,200 health care organizations, Novation is the largest
supply cost-management company in the United States. The agreement takes
effect on May 1, 2001 and runs through April 30, 2004 with the option
of two one-year extensions.
Under the new agreement, ARUP will support and enhance UHC and VHA members'
abilities to provide local and regional laboratory services. ARUP has
enjoyed a long-standing relationship for more than six years with UHC
as a sole source provider of clinical laboratory services. The new agreement,
according to Sherry Dobis, Director of Novation Distribution Services,
will provide ARUP with an opportunity to "assist VHA and UHC members
in meeting their clinical objective of providing quality, cost-effective
laboratory testing, while helping to maintain a lasting relationship with
their medical community."
“ARUP's strengths in the esoteric testing arena, as well as
our client support strategy, have positioned ARUP as a premier provider
of laboratory services for group purchasing organizations and independent
hospital groups,” said Dennis Monahan, Vice President of National
Contracts at ARUP Laboratories. “We are pleased that Novation has
recognized ARUP's outstanding position in the health care community.”
Salt Lake City-based ARUP Laboratories (Associated Regional and University
Pathologists, Inc.) was formed in 1984 as an independent, full-service
reference laboratory and is owned by the Department of Pathology at the
University of Utah Health Sciences Center. ARUP performs specialty, esoteric
testing that supplements the diagnostic testing available in local communities.
ARUP, with revenue of greater than $100 million, provides diagnostic testing
services for more than 1,500 clients and hospitals throughout the United
States and internationally. Clients include community hospitals, independent
hospital groups, reference laboratories, group purchasing organizations,

50 academic medical centers use ARUP as their primary reference laboratory
and ARUP also provides all laboratory services, including phlebotomy and
support services, for the University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics. ARUP
