| SALT LAKE CITY, January 19, 2001 – ARUP Laboratories, Inc. (www.aruplab.com), a Utah-based clinical reference laboratory with national and international clients and 1,200 employees, received the Work/Life Award from the Utah Department of Workforce Services. This prestigious award is based on the ability of a company to create a family-friendly workplace. Winning companies have created workplaces that employees are excited about and proud to be a part of. ARUP's employee-focused strategy can be summed up in three words: Family, Health and Education. ARUP is dedicated to providing and maintaining a safe work environment for its employees. ARUP offers benefits such as a free on-site health clinic for employees and their immediate family members; numerous wellness programs; low-cost medical and dental insurance; free life, disability and long-term health care insurance; tuition reimbursement and support for continuing education; and flexible job schedules to maintain a 24-hours-per-day and seven-days-per-week operation. ARUP employs a large professional staff of laboratory scientists, individuals involved in all areas of business operations, and entry-level positions in specimen processing, courier transport and client services. As a result of continued growth, ARUP is actively recruiting qualified employees to join its team. Carl R. Kjeldsberg, M.D., President and CEO of ARUP Laboratories, states “ARUP recognizes that if our employees are to exhibit a caring attitude and strong commitment to patients and physicians, ARUP needs to set an example by showing a caring and respectful attitude to our employees.” ARUP's corporate culture promotes integrity, open communication, mutual respect, compassion, creativity and innovation. ARUP Laboratories was formed in 1984 as an independent, full-service reference laboratory and is owned by the Department of Pathology at the University of Utah Health Sciences Center. ARUP performs specialty, esoteric testing that supplements the diagnostic testing available in local communities. With revenue of greater than $100 million, ARUP provides diagnostic testing services for clients and hospitals throughout the United States, including group purchasing organizations, regional hospital networks, individual hospitals, children's hospitals, reference laboratories, university hospitals and government institutions. In support of the local community, ARUP Laboratories' Blood Donor Center provides over 32,500 blood products per year to patients at the University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics, Primary Children's Medical Center, the Huntsman Cancer Institute, and Shriners Hospital for Children.
