May 20, 2004 - Arup's Dr. Lily Wu Receives Diploma of Honor

May 20, 2004 — The Association of Clinical Scientists has presented to Lily L. Wu, Ph.D., of ARUP Laboratories, its Diploma of Honor Award. The award was presented May 14 during the Annual Banquet of the Association at the Warwick Hotel, Houston, TX. The diploma is given to members of the Association who have made significant contributions to clinical science.

The Association of Clinical Scientists is a national organization of doctoral level clinical laboratory scientists, which meets yearly for educational seminars. The meetings are held in various cities throughout the country. The meeting this spring was held in Houston, May 12 to 16.

Dr. Wu is medical director of the Reagent Laboratory at ARUP Laboratories, a Utah-based national reference laboratory. In addition, she is the director of the Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory in the Cardiovascular Genetics Laboratory at the University of Utah. Dr. Wu also works at the University's School of Medicine as both a research associate professor in the Department of Pathology and an adjunct research associate professor in the Department of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Wu is a native of China. She completed her undergraduate education at National Taiwan University, where she received a B.S. degree in Biochemistry. She attended the Graduate School at the University of California, Davis, for a year, with a major in Nutrition. She then attended Oregon State University, Corvallis, where she received a master's degree in Biochemistry. She received her Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, and has remained there ever since.
