Wildcards Symbol (*)

The wildcard symbol (*) can be used in place of letters or characters in query words to search for different permutations of a word.

*	Can be in any position in the term and matches any number of characters.
Examples:	hemo*	matches hemolytic, hemophilia and hemophilia
	*NA	matches DNA and RNA
	*tet**	matches text and test
	BCL*	matches bcl-1/JH and bcl-2/JH
	virus*	matches virus or viruses
	*glucan*	matches beta-1,3-d-Glucan

Boolean Parameters

Search terms can be a single word or several words. The search engine automatically inserts and between words if nothing else is specified, so the Boolean term and can be omitted in search terms. For example, searching for tissue assay is the same as searching for tissue AND assay.

Quotes can be used to search for phrases. For example:

"tissue assay "

Words must be present in the specified order with no intervening words

The following boolean connectors can be used: AND, OR, NOT Examples:

tissue AND assay	Both words must be present
tissue OR assay	Either word can be present
assay NOT tissue	Only assay can be present, tissue cannot appear on the page

ARUP Laboratories’ Electronic Enhanced Laboratory Reporting System

In November 2009, ARUP Laboratories released its new Electronic Enhanced Laboratory Reporting System, which, for certain tests, supplemented the current text-based reports. The enhanced reports are PDF documents that can be downloaded directly over the internet by physicians' offices without affecting laboratories’ interfaces or otherwise impacting laboratory resources. By eliminating paper and faxing, the new format is also more secure than traditional paper reporting, which reduces the risk of a HIPAA breach. The electronic reporting format allows ARUP to provide physician-friendly supplemental reports for a wide variety of test types without creating a burden for clients.
