The Patient Protections and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) activates and increases the funding for the Medicaid Integrity Program (MIP) passed as part of the Deficit Reduction Act (DRA) of 2005. This legislation created a program designed to focus government resources on preventing fraud and abuse in the Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) by implementing a specific plan and strategy to accomplish that goal. This session will address the need for clinical laboratories to prepare for this new focus by explaining the changes coming to these programs and how labs can best protect themselves.

• Explain the fraud and abuse provisions contained in PPACA that pertain to the Medicaid and CHIP programs.
• Understand what the Medicaid Integrity Program is and how it will affect laboratories and other providers.
• Formulate a plan to monitor and prepare for these changes.
